Introduction:-

Almond Plant-Prunus Dulcis  grows to be a medium sized tree. It resembles peach, apricot and plum. It contains an edible seed in a hard outer shell, on drying the outer shell split opens to release the edible seed. There are two types of almonds available sweet and bitter. Due to its climatic requirements, Almond farming in India is restricted to hilly regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and hilly region of Uttar Pradesh only.

 

Climatic Requirement:-

Almond Plants-Prunus Dulcis require a slightly hot summer temperature ranging between 30 to 35 Degree Celsius and cool winters it can withstand cold up to 2.2 degree Celsius but long duration low temperature damages the crop.

 

Soil Requirement:-

It grows in a vide range of soil, with PH ranging between 7 to 8.5. It prefers a loamy

deep and well-drained soil. Almond Plant does not grow in poorly drained soil. However,

Satisfactory.

 

Almond Plant-Prunus Dulcis Spacing Recommendation:-

The grafted almond plant should be planted following a distance of 6 Mts x 6 Mts, 4 Mts x

4 Mts for medium high density farming and 3.5 Mts x 3.5 Mts for a very high density

Farming. Plantation    should be carried out in the month of February and March.
