Banana is the common name for herbaceous plants of the genus Musa and for the fruit they produce. In respect of area and production, it ranks second only to mango in this country. Bananas come in a variety of sizes and colors when ripe, including yellow, purple, and red. It is a moisture- and heat-loving plant and cannot tolerate frost or arid conditions. Banana is a tall herb two to six meters high with milky juice in all the parts. It is monocarpic yet perennial, strongly tailoring, monocotyledonous plant. The important varieties propagated are Grand naine and Robusta.

Banana occupies over 1,64,000 hectares, mainly in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. Though some inferior types of banana are found growing as far north as the Himalayas

Almost all export bananas are of the dessert types; however, only about 10–15% of production is for export. The United States and European Union are the dominant importers.

It is a high yielding Cavendish variety introduced to India from Israel.

The Plant grows to a height of 6.5 to 7.5 Feet.

The bunches can be harvested within eleven to twelve months from the date of planting the tissue culture plants

Each bunch will be having 10 to 12 hands with 175 to 225 number of fruits.

The fruits of Grand Nain Banana variety are delicious to eat and keeping quality of the fruit is high compared to our native varieties.

It is recommended to plant 1200 plants / acre with spacing of 6 x 6 ft.
